Imagine our surprise when...

It is not often that we are caught out with new French phenomena, but this case was an exception.  We started to receive calls about sourcing a Franco-Rwandan singer named Corneille.  These calls became more prolific, and it turned out that radio 4's Today programme had aired a report on a complete outsider being nominated for the 2004 MTV awards in Roma.

The journalistic angle on the story was that this artist had witnessed real atrocities in Rwanda, but that now, 10 years on, he was making a success of his life.

Corneille has hit the charts in France, peaking at no.4, with his French language R&B.
