A rare 1964 Vancouver concert by the Stan Getz Quartet with Gary Burton for the first time ever on CD. The rhythm section was : Gene Cherico, bass and Joe Hunt, drums.
This piano-less quartet, with Burton (suggested by Lou Levy apparently) was one of Getz’s more interesting and musically enterprising groups.
As bonus tracks, there are two more very rare performances : Getz’s quartet set at Newport ’61 (these are Scott LaFaro’s last recordings!) and two tracks taped at the Apollo Theatre in 1950 with an orchestra led by Getz and featuring Zoot Sims and Gerry Mulligan.
Personnel on the Newport tracks is : Stan Getz (ts), Steve Kuhn (p), Scott LaFaro (b), Roy Haynes (d) - and at the Apollo : Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Don Lanphere (ts), Gery Mulligan (bar), Stan Fishelson, Al Porcino, Idrees Sulieman (tp), Johnny Mandel (b-tp), Billy Taylor (p), Tommy Potter (b), Roy Haynes (d).
Total Time: 60:39 - 12 tracks - New & careful remastering.
