Released for the first time in the UK, this is the 2004 album by the reformed, experimental, psychedelic LA group of the late 60s, featuring three of the original members : James Lowe (lead vocal, autoharp), Ken Williams (guitar), and Mark Tulin (bass).
After a 30 year break, they began touring internationally again in 2001, and in 2002 released a new CD, Artifact and a DVD, Rewired. California, on their own Prune Twang label, continues this ‘re-birth’ - and won’t disappoint old fans or new converts.
The material is strong throughout and there’s plenty of familiar fuzz, tremolo, feedback and distortion with their style moving between dirty garage punk and dreamier psychedelic rock, and lyrics that sometimes hark back to their hey-day. The band might not want to have it called great cruising music, but there are thousands of aspiring ‘retro’ groups out there who’d be happy to make an album half as good.
